When everyone is entitled to their own opinion, you’re going to get a lot of opinions. And when estimates about the future cannot yet be proven, everyone wants to believe their idea is the correct one.
While it’s always important to gather feedback and insight from others, it’s equally important to remember that you don’t always have to buy into it (Tweet this quote). This is critical to note when we live a world full of sales people.
Sure, not everyone does door-to-door sales for living, but everyone wants to be heard. And if you think about it, one of the most rewarding feelings is seeing other people take your advice. So, for better or worse, people are always selling their ideas about life — and many times ideas that they feel are best for you.
But in the end, you must be able to weigh all factors and make the decision you feel is best for … you. Just because ideas, concepts, and advice might come in a pretty package from a passionate person you respect, does not mean they’re always right for you.
Admittedly, this is a concept much easier to talk about than apply, but one all Mavericks must fully understand. Why? Because when you do things differently (your own way), you’re going to stir things up, attract attention, and provoke hordes of people to voice their opinion.
In the end, it’s your life — and you must live with the consequences … the greatest one being lost time spent pursuing someone else’s version of reality.
Remember, there is another sale’s pitch you should also consider: Your own.
Be a Maverick,
