More than one answer

This is my tribute of an unaccredited image that spread like wildfire on the internet way back in 2005… and yet I still have not forgotten it. It’s simple, it’s funny, and even though the teacher may not enjoy the same degree of laughter, in some strange way, it’s still, literally speaking, a correct response.

NOpportunity

When the first thing I see is a road block or what appears to be a dead end, I derail my interpretation by labeling the situation as a ‘NOppertunity.’ These are simply circumstances whereby the no’s, can’ts, and don’ts are initially the most obvious aspects, but not the only ones.

Opportunity, by nature, is introverted. It won’t appear with flashing lights and boisterous music. Instead, the greatest opportunities are revealed to those who seek them.

Perception is…

Too many people still view the world as ‘flat.’ They think in very limited, 2-dimensional terms. This is a shame, because it limits what is possible. To experience more you have to believe more exists.

If Christopher Columbus believed what the experts told him (“Young man, the world is flat. Sailing far to sea is a death wish!”) then he never would have left the shoreline and certainly never would have stumbled upon North America – a voyage and discovery that ironically completely changed human’s ‘perception’ of our world.

Ideas have a shelf-life

Many times the ideas we have today can have an immediate impact on our personal lives and countless others, but there is no insurance that guarantees a valuable idea today will have the same value tomorrow.

Your only obligation

Craving to creatively express myself in early 2011, I drew this image late one January night. Truth be told, it’s the very first image that inspired the new Maxims4Mavericks as a ‘visually nutritious’ blog.

Sometimes the journey of becoming a better version of yourself simply begins by looking in a new direction with a new pair of eyes. But whatever direction you look, be sure it’s your own. Creativity flourishes when the primary obligation we embrace is seeking to be oneself.

Nothing is created until something is destroyed

At first this maxim seems controversial, perhaps even destructive and unsustainable. But if applied to the immaterial, it makes perfect sense while offering a very pertinent lesson. Any new product, service, or business, is the result of replacing an old idea with a new one – replacing an old assumption with a new approach. Being…

Crazy is better than common

Contrary to popular belief, budding entrepreneurs trying to make a name for themselves don’t suffer from a lack of resources. They suffer mainly from obscurity.  And by definition, obscurity always increases at the norm. Why? Because “common” literally means widespread – it’s the peak of the bell curve; the home of the majority. When categorized…

Opposite can mean opportunity

Too easily and too often we assume our perspectives are the best, most logical, and perhaps only way to interpret the world. But this train of thought is not only fallacious, but perilous. We shut doors of opportunity and growth that we didn’t even know existed. If doing things in the same way we have…
