Why does this lesson plan strike you as odd? Because in conventional education (chalkboard and all) there is so much structure we come to rely on teachers, leaders, scholars, and a predetermined program to “educate” us.
To some degree this works, but often unknowingly, this approach also teaches us that learning is separate from life. You go to school; you learn what you need to learn; then you get on with life. However, reality is very different.
A teacher’s core objective should not be to ‘educate’ their pupils, but rather to get their pupils to, you guessed it, want to educate themselves. With such a mentality, success is nearly unavoidable.
It’s no question that those who enjoy more, do more, and achieve more are those whose own daily lesson plan reads: “Educate myself.”
