Fashion is popular and popularity is sought by most. This does beg the question of whether the act of ‘seeking it’ makes fashion a trend of conformity or leadership.
Art, on the other hand, is not always popular, but almost always trailblazing and trendsetting.
Reflecting on her brother, Steve Jobs, and his exceptional life, Mona Simpson recalled a quote, “Fashion is what seems beautiful now but looks ugly later; art can be ugly at first but it becomes beautiful later.”
Art doesn’t have a shelf-life. It’s not created for the marketplace, but it impacts it. It’s not created to ‘sell,’ but it is often desired and respected.
Innovation is not about staying on the cusp, it’s about creating it, causing it, and directing it. Blaze your own path and focus artful action, not fashionable opinions.
